Evaluating the Evidence: The Methodological and Reporting Quality of Comparative Observational Studies of Surgical Interventions in the Urological Literature
PURPOSE:
To develop and apply a standardized evaluation form for assessing the methodological and reporting quality of observational surgical intervention studies in urology. The form was developed using the Consolidated Standards for Reporting Trials (CONSORT) statement. Reporting adequacy categories included background, intervention, statistical analysis, results and discussion. Minor improvements in the reporting of observational surgical intervention studies have occurred between 1995 and 2005.

Critical Assessment of Quality of Prostate Cancer Guideline Reporting
PURPOSE:
To systematically assess the quality of original prostate cancer guidelines being used in urology. Three different instruments were used to evaluate the quality of guidelines including the Appraisal of Guidelines, Research and Evaluation (AGREE).

Evaluating the Evidence: Quality of Reporting of Studies on Robotic-Assisted Laparoscopic Prostatectomy
PURPOSE:
Robotic-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP) is rapidly replacing radical retropubic prostatectomy as the new “gold standard” surgical approach to clinically localized prostate cancer. This study critically assessed the available evidence to support the major shift in practice.

An Observational Study of Duplicate Research Presentations at the AUA and EAU Annual Meetings
PURPOSE:
Major international urological meetings are invaluable to the dissemination of new research findings. Given the limitations of meeting programs, investigators who present the same paper at multiple meetings prevent other presentations of potentially important original research. We conducted an observational study to determine the incidence of duplicate abstract presentations at recent American Urological Association (AUA) and European Urological Association (EAU) annual meetings.

Completed
A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Screening for Prostate Cancer
PURPOSE:
We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials to systematically examine the evidence on the benefits and harms of prostate cancer screening. The evidence did not support routinely screening for prostate cancer with prostate specific antigen with or without digital rectal examination.
STATUS:
Completed
A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Transurethral Radiofrequency Collagen Denaturation for Stress Urinary Incontinence in Women
PURPOSE:
To systematically examine the evidence on the benefits and harms of radiofrequency collagen denaturation for stress urinary incontinence in women.
STATUS:
In Progress
A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Treatments for Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer
PURPOSE:
To systematically examine the evidence on the benefits, harms, and comparative effectiveness of treatments for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer.

A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Rehabilitation of Erectile Function Following Radical Prostatectomy
PURPOSE:
To systematically examine the evidence on the benefits, harms, and comparative effectiveness of rehabilitation of erectile function following radical prostatectomy.

A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Pelvic Lymph Node Dissection for Invasive Bladder Cancer
PURPOSE:
To systematically examine the evidence on the benefits, harms, and comparative effectiveness of pelvic lymph node dissection for invasive bladder cancer.
